Caldeira Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore Marcus Caldeira of the West Virginia University men's soccer team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week presented by University Apartments after his strong performance against California Baptist.
To kick off the 2023 season, Caldeira scored twice in a 3-0 victory over the Lancers. His first goal turned out to be the game-winner, the fourth of his career.
Caldeira put the Mountaineers on top in the 15th minute as he received the ball in the box and made one move around the goalie before firing a shot into the back of the net. In the 86th minute, he headed in a ball from junior Otto Ollikainen to put the game away and secure the victory for the Mountaineers.
The Mississauga, Ontario, native will look to continue his hot start to the season on Monday as WVU hosts Bucknell at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium at 7 p.m.
This Week in Men's Soccer: The Mountaineers (1-0) have two contests this week, beginning with a home match against Bucknell on Monday at 7 p.m. … WVU will then hit the road for the first time this season on Friday as they take on Yale in New Haven at 7 p.m.
