
West Virginia Finishes Season Against TCU

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After falling to the No. 8-seeded TCU Horned Frogs, 4-0, in the opening round of the 2023 Big 12 Women's Tennis Championships on Thursday, April 20, the West Virginia tennis team has concluded its 2023 season, at the Lawrence Sports Pavilion, in Lawrence, Kansas.
To open up doubles play, in the No. 2 slot, sophomore Michaela Kucharova and junior Momoko Nagato fell, 6-1, to TCU's Helena Narmont and Yu-Chin Tsai.
Sophomore Camilla Bossi and senior Ting-Pei Chang started in the No. 1 spot against Mercedes Aristegui and Jade Otway. The Mountaineer pair was bested by the Horned Frogs, 6-2, as TCU claimed the doubles point to take the early lead over West Virginia.
The final doubles match from the No. 3 slot went unfinished. Redshirt freshman Maja Dodik and sophomore Tatiana Lipatova were down, 5-3, when the match was abandoned.
During singles play, starting in the No. 1 spot, Bossi fell to No. 114 Aristegui in two sets, 6-3, 6-1, to begin singles competition.
Next up, Dodik came up short to Otway, 6-0, 6-2, before Margaret Polk secured the match for the Horned Frogs against fifth-year senior Pei-Ju Hsieh, 6-4, 6-4.
The remaining matches from the No. 2, 3 and 5 slots went unfinished. The Mountaineers trailed in match No. 2 and led in matches No. 3 and 5.
Thursday's content marked the conclusion of the 2022-23 season. It also served as senior Hsieh's final collegiate match.
On the year, Kucharova led WVU with 10 singles wins and in doubles (11) with Nagato.
