MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The WVU Rowing team opens its season on Friday, March 31, in Sarasota, Florida, at the Sunshine State Invitational, hosted by the Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association, at Nathan Benderson Park.
"After two weeks of scrimmaging, we're eagerly looking forward to our first 2ks of the season, WVU coach Jimmy King said. "Amidst the excitement of finally racing again, we'll need to maintain our composure when the adrenaline kicks-in in order to race at our best.
"There are a good mix of schools from different conferences racing this weekend, some of which we don't normally see. There are also a few schools we'll race again later in the year, so this weekend's racing will be very valuable for us."
WVU will hit the water and contest four events: Varsity Eight (WVU, Michigan State, UCF, Miami, Wisconsin, UNC), Second Varsity Eight (WVU, Stetson, Michigan State, UCF, Miami, Wisconsin, UNC), Varsity Four (WVU, Stetson, Michigan State, UCF, Miami, Wisconsin, UNC) and Second Varsity Four (WVU, Kansas, Miami, UCF and Kansas State).
Racing begins at 3:20 p.m. ET, with WVU's first heat, in the Women's Second Varsity Four. The Varsity Four will begin at 4 p.m., the second Varsity Eight at 5:20 p.m. and the Varsity Eight at 5:40 p.m.
Lane assignments for Saturday morning will be based on Friday finishes, but finals will begin at 8am.
There will be heats and finals in all of WVU's events.
