
West Virginia Falls to No. 13 Kansas

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team (10-4, 1-1 Big 12) fell to Kansas, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon in Morgantown.
West Virginia went into singles play with a disadvantage, after the Jayhawks (10-2, 1-1 Big 12) claimed the doubles point. Sophomore/senior pair Camilla Bossi and Ting-Pei Chang finished first, as they fell, 6-2, to Malkia Ngounoue and Heike Van Vuuren.
Next up, Kansas doubles pair Roxana Manu and Jocelyn Massey defeated fifth-year senior Pei-Ju Hsieh and redshirt freshman Maja Dodik, 6-3, to secure the doubles point for the Jayhawks.
Junior Momoko Nagato and sophomore Michaela Kucharova's match against Maria Titova and Tamari Gagoshidze was 5-4, before going unfinished.
During singles play, Kucharova was the first to finish, defeating Manu in two sets, 6-1, 6-3. Next up, No. 45 Ngounoue claimed the victory at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 7-6(9), win over Bossi, before Chang fell 6-2, 6-2, to Titova to secure the match for the Jayhawks.
In the No. 4 spot, Nagato battled through three sets against Van Vuuren, but ultimately fell, 1-6, 6-4, 2-6. Sophomore Tatiana Lipatova fell to Silvia Costache in two sets, 4-6, 4-6.
Dodik dropped the first set to Mariana Velasquez, 3-6, before the match was abandoned due to injury in the second set at 3-2.
