MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University senior swimmer Tatum Peyerl has been chosen as a recipient of the 2023 Scholar-Athlete Postgraduate Award.
"It was truly an honor to be chosen as the recipient for the Scholar-Athlete Postgraduate Award! When I first found out I was chosen, I was overcome with a lot of emotion because of how much this award meant to me," Peyerl said. "Not only that, but an award like this can ultimately change someone's life, as it has mine. I feel so blessed and thankful for this opportunity, and I am excited to continue working towards a successful future in biomedical engineering."
Outside of the pool, the Boksburg, South Africa native has been named to the Academic All-Big 12 Rookie Team as a freshman, Academic All-Big 12 First team as sophomore and junior, the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, as well as the Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll.
Peyerl will graduate in May with a degree in biomedical engineering.
About the Award
What began as a federal law on June 23, 1972, has since blossomed into 50 years of continued success for West Virginia University's female student-athletes.
In celebration of 50 years of Title IX, the Mountaineer Athletic Club hosted a '50 for 50' campaign, which ran from December 2022 – February 2023. The campaign is designed to invest in the next 50 years for Mountaineer women's student-athletes. A donation to the 50 for 50 campaign went to the Female Scholar-Athlete Postgraduate Award Fund.
