MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team finished competition at the Big 12 Conference Championships hosted by Texas Tech University at the Sports Performance Center in Lubbock, Texas, on Saturday, Feb. 25.
"I am very happy with this team's performance in Lubbock," coach Sean Cleary said. "I had a goal to have eight named to the All-Big 12 Team. I felt we had 10 or 12 that could reach such a level should they execute perfectly, but as with most things in life, you rarely have a perfect day. To return to Morgantown with 11 named to the All-Big 12 team is a special moment for the program."

Ceili McCabe and senior
Rachel Butler completed the 3,000-meter final on Saturday. McCabe claimed the Big 12 Conference 3,000-meter title with a time of 9:21.21. Butler had a strong showing in her first competition of the season, finishing in 9:40.06.
Junior

Mikaela Lucki competed for the Big 12 one mile title. Lucki crossed the finish line at 4:46.67 to earn fourth for the Mountaineers, while Wood completed the mile in 4:48.54 and secured ninth.

Hayley Jackson ran in the 1,000-meter final. Vanderheyden finished with a time of 2:47.95 to garner fifth-place, and Jackson finished immediately after her at 2:48.47 to claim sixth. Vanderheyden's effort was good enough for a personal best.
Sophomore
Cassandra Williamson completed the 800-meter finals in 2:07.17 and finished fourth. Her classmate
Abigale Mullings reached a height of 1.72 meters in the high jump finals. Saturday marked Williamson's best Big 12 performance.
"Across the board this weekend, I feel especially proud that every single athlete that we brought to this meet gave an exceptional effort," Cleary commented. "Whether they met their goals or not, I believe I witnessed a complete mental and physical effort by all who competed for WVU. What more could we ask from our team?"
The top eight finishers in each event were named to the All-Big 12 Team, and WVU tallied 11 All-Big 12 performances.
"Moving forward, we need to bring in more elite level athletes who have the ability and courage to train and compete at this level," Cleary added.
