
Mountaineers Return Home for Senior Day

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women's basketball team (16-10, 7-8 Big 12) returns to Morgantown to play host to Kansas State on Saturday, Feb. 25, for senior day for three Mountaineers in Sarah Bates, Madisen Smith and Danni Nichols. Senior day festivities will take place 20 minutes prior to tipoff.
The contest against Kansas State will be broadcast on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ with Nick Farrell and Warren Baker on the call. The game also can be heard on the Varsity Network app, with Andrew Caridi on the call. Live stats and game notes will be available on WVUsports.com.
The matchup marks the 25th time the two programs have met. West Virginia is 17-7 all-time against Kansas State, including 7-3 in games played in Morgantown. WVU has won seven of the last 10 meetings with Wildcats dating back to Jan. 5, 2020. Earlier this season, the Mountaineers' claimed the two teams' first meeting in Manhattan, Kan., with a 77-70, victory on Jan. 7.
Kansas State comes into the contest with a 15-12 overall record and a 4-11 mark in the Big 12. The Wildcats are coming off a 63-45 win over Kansas on Feb. 22, at Bramlage Coliseum in Manhattan, Kansas.
Last time out, WVU fell at Texas Tech in a double OT 69-68 loss. West Virginia led by double-digit points multiple times, leading for 37 minutes in the game but struggled to find an offensive rhythm in the second half.
JJ Quinerly led WVU's scoring efforts for the 13th time this season, recording 21 points. Kyah Watson and Madisen Smith both recorded double-doubles with 11 points and 12 rebounds and 11 points and 11 rebounds. Jayla Hemingway added 15 points.
The Mountaineers shot 31.6% (24-of-76) from the floor, including 21.4% (6-of-28) from 3.
