400 Medley Relays Earn Bronze on Day Two

AUSTIN, Texas – The West Virginia University men's and women's swimming and diving teams added two bronze medals to their count on Thursday evening at the Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championship, held at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin, Texas.
The night opened with junior Abby Reardon's sixth-place finish in the women's 500 free, touching the pads in 4:50.31. Following behind was sophomore Miranda Kirtley in eighth, finishing in 4:53.01. On the men's side, junior Roanoke Shirk added a sixth-place finish (4:26.78), while junior William Mullen finished right behind in seventh with a time of 4:27.06, and freshman Max Nielsen finished in eighth place (4:29.48).
Senior Jacqueline McCutchan earned fifth place in the women's 200 IM finishing in 2:00.15, while freshman Mia Cheatwood followed in eighth place with a time of 2:02.46. Additionally, sophomore Murgan Burton added a first-place finish in the B-finals, touching the pads in 2:03.07. For the men, junior Danny Berlitz finished the 200 IM with a time of 1:45.78, good enough for sixth place. Freshman Jamin Harlin followed behind in seventh, finishing in 1:47.23.
Next came the 50 free, where freshman Ada Szwabinska finished in sixth place with a time of 22.98. Sophomore Conner McBeth added a fifth-place finish for the men with a time of 19.87.
In the diving well, the men and women competed in the 3-meter springboard competition. Sophomore Glenn Eloriaga finished in eighth place with a score of 351.70.
Thursday's action concluded with two bronze medals in the 400 medley relay competitions. The women's team of McCutchan, Cheatwood, Minezawa and Szwabinska finished with a time of 3:39.10. The men's team of junior Justin Heimes, Berlitz, senior David Snider, and McBeth finished in 3:11.67.
The Mountaineers return to competition on Friday, Feb. 24, for the third day of action at the Big 12 Championship. Friday's swim prelims are set to begin at 11 a.m. ET, diving prelims are set to begin at 2:45 p.m., at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center, while finals action will commence at 7 p.m. ET.
