Mountaineers Prep for Pair of Road Meets

NORMAN, Okla. – The West Virginia University gymnastics team hits the road for a pair of dual meets this weekend. WVU's road swing begins with a Big 12 Conference matchup at No. 1 Oklahoma on Friday, Feb. 24, before wrapping up the weekend at Texas Woman's on Sunday, Feb. 26.
Friday's action inside OU's Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Oklahoma, is set for 7:45 p.m. ET, and will be broadcast on Sooner Vision on ESPN+. On Sunday, the meet against TWU is scheduled for 2 p.m., inside Kitty Magee Arena in Denton, Texas.

Oklahoma holds a 22-1 lead in the all-time series between the two squads, with the Mountaineers' lone win coming in 1989. WVU and OU last met at the 2022 Big 12 Gymnastics Championship on March 18, in Denver, Colorado, where the Sooners claimed the conference crown. Oklahoma enters Friday's dual with a perfect, 11-0 record this season, including a 2-0 mark in Big 12 action.
The Sooners sit atop this week's Road to Nationals rankings for the seventh consecutive week, as they are the only team with a 198.0+ National Qualifying Score (NQS).
West Virginia and Texas Woman's are set to meet for the fourth time in program history on Sunday, as the Mountaineers hold a perfect record in the all-time series, 3-0. WVU and TWU last met on Feb. 11, 2022, with West Virginia claiming a 195.9-194.5 win in Morgantown. The Pioneers enter Sunday's meet with a 7-8 record this season.
Last time out, West Virginia posted a season-best team score to top Bowling Green, 196.575-194.8, in Morgantown on Feb. 19. WVU's floor lineup erupted for a season-best 49.575, with all six gymnasts posting a 9.9 or higher for the first time this season. WVU topped Bowling Green on every event Sunday afternoon, including 49.2-48.925 on vault, 48.875-48.25 on uneven bars, 48.925-48.575 on balance beam and 49.575-49.05 on floor exercise.
The Mountaineers' vault lineup was led by a career-best 9.875 from freshman Emma Wehry, who finished second in the final event standings. Sophomore Brooke Alban led the way on bars with a 9.85, winning the bars title outright. Senior Kianna Yancey paced the beam rotation with a 9.85, earning first place, before senior Emily Holmes-Hackerd led the way on floor with an event-winning and career-best 9.95.
In this week's Road to Nationals rankings, WVU sits in a tie for No. 23 on floor exercise with an NQS of 49.220. The Mountaineers have been ranked inside the top 25 on floor for 26 consecutive weeks, dating back to Jan. 25, 2021. Overall, West Virginia ranks No. 39 nationally with a season NQS of 195.435. Elsewhere, WVU sits at No. 37 on beam (48.8), No. 41 on vault (48.795) and No. 45 on bars (48.685).
