
No. 23 Baylor Defeats West Virginia in Three Sets

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team (9-20, 2-14 Big 12) fell to No. 23 Baylor in three sets on Saturday night. The Bears claimed the victory with scores of 25-11, 25-17 and 25-15.
Junior outside hitter Hailey Green led West Virginia with 13 kills, followed by sophomore outside hitter Bailey Miller with seven. Redshirt senior setter Lauren DeLo added 24 assists, and freshman middle blocker Maddy McGath and sophomore middle blocker Tierney Jackson collected two blocks each.
The Mountaineers trailed early in the first, 7-1. Miller and freshman middle blocker Emma Beretich chipped in a kill to make the score 8-4. Jackson added the last point of the first for West Virginia, as Baylor stormed ahead to take the set, 25-11.
Green kicked off the second set with a pair of kills, as West Virginia led, 2-1. A 3-0 run from Baylor set the tone for the rest of the set, as Baylor took the 9-4 advantage. A kill from Green let West Virginia trail by two, 14-12, before the halfway point. Baylor went on to close the second with a 4-0 run to seal the set, 25-17.
Baylor started off the third and final set with a 3-0 lead. Green added another pair of kills, as West Virginia trailed 4-2. The West Virginia offense saw a spark with a 3-0 run, making the score 8-6. The Mountaineers added two straight points from Bereitch and Green to trail, 20-13. The Bears went on to close the final set with a kill and a service ace, 25-15.
West Virginia returns home on Wednesday, Nov. 22, to face off against BYU. Wednesday's match is Senior Night and is slated for 6 p.m. ET. The contest also will feature the Weeknight Happy Hour deal, with selection concession items marked half off.
