WVU to Play Host to Texas on Wednesday Night

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women's basketball team returns to Morgantown to square off against Texas for the first time this season, as the Longhorns come to the WVU Coliseum on Wednesday, Feb. 1. Tipoff against UT is set for 7 p.m. ET.
During Wednesday's game, the Mountaineers will celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day, as well as the 50th anniversary of Title IX. There will be special t-shirts and water bottles given away to the first 250 fans in attendance.
Wednesday's matchup with the Longhorns will be broadcast live on the Mountaineer Sports Network, including 100.9 WSZT-FM, with Andrew Caridi and John Antonik on the call. Fans also can listen to the game on the Varsity Network App.
Additionally, Wednesday's game also will be broadcast on Big 12 Now on ESPN+, with Nick Farrell and Meg Bulger on the call. Live stats and game notes will be available on WVUsports.com.
Tickets for the contest can be purchased at WVUGAME.com or by visiting the Mountaineer Ticket Office, located inside the Gold Gate of the WVU Coliseum.
West Virginia is 10-15 all-time against Texas, including 5-5 in games played in Morgantown. The Longhorns claimed both meetings last season, topping WVU, 73-57, in Austin on Jan. 15, before securing a 67-58 win in Morgantown on Feb. 20.
Last time out, West Virginia recorded a 62-55 victory over TCU inside Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, on Jan. 28. Sophomore guard JJ Quinerly led all scorers in the contest, as she tallied her 15th double-digit scoring effort of the season, including her third 20-point performance this year. Redshirt sophomore guard Kyah Watson joined Quinerly in double figures, adding 10 points. Watson, junior forward Kylee Blacksten and senior guard Jayla Hemingway hauled in seven boards apiece.
As a team, West Virginia finished the game shooting 24-of-57 (42.1%) from the field, including 6-of-23 (26.1%) from 3-point range.
On the season, Quinerly paces West Virginia in scoring, at 13.9 points per game. She is joined in double figures by fifth-year senior guard Madisen Smith with 12.9 points per game and Hemingway at 10.2 points per game.
West Virginia is first in the Big 12 Conference in scoring defense, as it is holding opponents to just 57.4 points per game this season. WVU ranks No. 37 nationally in the category.
The Mountaineers also lead the league in turnover margin (7.63) and steals per game (10.3). Additionally, West Virginia is second in the league in turnovers forced per game (20.84) and turnovers per game (13.2).
