
Reardon, Cheatwood Honored by Big 12

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After the West Virginia University women's swimming and diving teams defeated Iowa State and Northern Iowa on Jan. 21, two Mountaineers have earned Big 12 weekly honors, as announced by the league on Wednesday.
Junior Abby Reardon was named Women's Co-Swimmer of the Week, while freshman Mia Cheatwood was named Women's Newcomer of the Week. Cheatwood's honor is her third of the season, while Reardon garnered her second accolade of the week after being named WVU's Student-Athlete of the Week.
Reardon earned her recognition by winning all three events in which she competed, helping lead the Mountaineers to victory. The Chesapeake, Virginia, native started off her meet with a first-place finish in the 200 free (1:52.14), before claiming first in the 500 free with a time of 5:00.28. She finished the day with the 400 free relay team, touching the pads in 3:26.47 and finishing first.
Cheatwood tallied two first-place individual finishes as well as a relay win on her way to earning Women's Newcomer of the Week. She earned a win in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.13 and the 200-yard breaststroke finishing in 2:18.30, before helping the 200 medley relay team tally a win in 1:43.79. The Bowling Green, Ohio, native finished her meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard IM (2:03.73).
WVU returns to action this Saturday, Jan. 28, against Villanova at The Aquatic Center at Mylan Park in Morgantown. Senior Day recognition will begin at 11:45 a.m.
