WVU Makes Trek to Towson for Quad Meet

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University gymnastics team prepares for its second road meet of the season, as it travels to Towson, Maryland, on Friday, Jan. 20, for a quad meet at Towson with New Hampshire and West Chester. Competition is tabbed for 6 p.m. ET, inside SECU Arena.
Friday's action will be streamed live on YouTube, while live stats also are available at WVUsports.com.
The Mountaineers (3-2) travel to Towson for the third time in the last two seasons on Friday, after a pair of meets there last season. WVU and TU split the matchups last year, with the Tigers claiming the first meeting, 194.15-194.0, before the Mountaineers narrowly took the rematch, 196.575-196.525.
West Chester joined WVU at the first meet at Towson last season, as the Mountaineers topped the Golden Rams 194.0-192.6. WVU and New Hampshire meet for the first time since 2020, when the two squads split a pair of meetings. West Virginia won, 196.025-195.125, on Jan. 26, before UNH took the rematch, 195.075-195.85, on Feb. 8.
Towson enters Friday's meet with a 3-0 record on the season, while New Hampshire is 2-1. West Chester is set to open its 2023 campaign in Towson this weekend.
Last time out, WVU earned a second-place finish in its home opener against Kent State and Maryland in Morgantown on Jan. 13. The Mountaineers earned a season-best 195.1 to finish the night in second place. Maryland earned the top spot, posting a 195.425 for first place, while Kent State took third place with a score of 194.475.
Senior Kianna Yancey was the lone all-around competitor for West Virginia, as she tallied a career-best 39.25 total on all four events to earn first place in the all-around. Yancey earned at least a tie for first place on every event but vault. As a team, WVU tallied scores of 48.9 on vault, 48.425 on bars, 48.675 on beam and 49.1 on floor.
In this week's Road to Nationals rankings, WVU sits at No. 19 on floor exercise with a season average of 49.15. WVU's floor lineup has a season best of 49.200, earned in the season opener on Jan. 6. The Mountaineers have been ranked inside the top 25 on floor for 21 consecutive weeks, dating back to Jan. 25, 2021. Overall, West Virginia sits at No. 37 nationally with a season average of 195.013. Elsewhere, WVU ranks No. 36 on vault (48.813), No. 38 on beam (48.588) and No. 42 on bars (48.463).
