MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After tallying the second brace of her career in a 2-0 win at Iowa State, fifth-year senior forward Lauren Segalla of the West Virginia University women's soccer team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
Segalla scored goals in the 66th and 73rd minutes to help WVU earn the two-goal victory at Cyclone Sports Complex in Ames, Iowa, on Sept. 25. The victory gave WVU its first Big 12 Conference win of the season, as well as help it go 1-0-1 in the first weekend of league play. The Salisbury, Connecticut, native's brace was her first since last season's matchup with Iowa State on Sept. 24, 2021, when she scored a pair to lead the Mountaineers to a 4-0 win over the Cyclones.
Additionally, Segalla's outing marked the first two-goal scorer for West Virginia since Oct. 17, 2021, while it also marked the Mountaineers' 127th two-goal performance all-time. Segalla paced the offensive attack with two goals, three shots and three shots on goal.
The Mountaineers (4-3-4, 1-0-1 Big 12) now return to Morgantown to open their home conference slate, playing host to Kansas on Friday, Sept. 30. Kickoff at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m. ET.
