MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Senior Verena Zaisberger of the West Virginia University rifle team has been named to the 2021-22 Academic All-District II Women's At-Large First Team, as announced on Thursday by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Zaisberger advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America National ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honors will be selected in the coming weeks.
A native of Hohenems, Austria, Zaisberger's selection is the first of her career. She becomes the 10th different shooter in program history to be named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District II Teams. Her selection also is the 21st in program history.
Moreover, Zaisberger is the first rifle student-athlete to be selected to the All-District II Team since David Koenders received the award in 2020.
In the classroom, Zaisberger maintained a 4.0 grade-point average (GPA) during her undergraduate career and earned her bachelor's degree in music and French in May 2022.
During her career, Zaisberger has been named to the Academic All-Big 12 At-Large First Team each year since her sophomore season in 2018-19, and also has represented WVU on the Great American Rifle Conference's (GARC) Scholar-Athlete team in each of the last two seasons.
In 2021-22, Zaisberger took home her second consecutive NCAA Elite 90 Award, the highest academic honor for rifle, becoming the second shooter in program history to earn the honor twice. She also was awarded the Dr. Gerald Lage Academic Achievement award during her senior campaign, the Big 12 Conference's highest academic honor.
On the range, Zaisberger owns six All-America honors from the Collegiate Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) and has been named to the All-GARC Teams eight times during her four seasons at West Virginia.
