MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rowing team travels to Neville Township, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, April 30, to face Robert Morris in a 10 a.m. ET, scrimmage on the Ohio River.
Racing will occur on the Back Channel of the Ohio River on the south side of Neville Island. The RMU McPhail boathouse is located at the RMU Island Sports Center on the western tip of Neville Island at 7600 Grand Avenue.
"On most regatta days, coaches remain on shore seeing the same view as that of our spectators," WVU rowing coach Jimmy King said. "As our spectators know, you don't see much from that vantage point beyond the positioning of the crews relative to one another. This weekend, the coaches will be on the water following alongside our crews, enabling us to more clearly assess how we're moving and executing our races."
WVU will boat its Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, Varsity Four, Second Varsity Four and Third Varsity Eight.
Three rounds of racing are scheduled. The first round will consist of 2x3', the second round of 3x2', then a final round of 1' intervals. The racing intervals will simulate different aspects of the 2000-meter racing distance, providing both teams multiple opportunities to sharpen their racing leading up to their respective conference championships in two weeks.
Round 1 is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m., with the Varsity Eights. WVU's Second and Third Varsity Eights will race RMU's Second Varsity Eight at 10:10 a.m. WVU's Varsity and Second Varsity Fours will start at 10:20 a.m., against RMU's Varsity Four.
2022 Schedule
April 30 (Sat.) – at Robert Morris; Neville Township, Pa. (Ohio River)
May 16 (Sun.) – at Big 12 Championship; Austin, Texas (Lake Walter E Long)
