MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Two members of the West Virginia University men's swimming and diving team are set to compete at the 2022 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, from March 23-26, at the McAuley Aquatic Center, hosted by Georgia Tech, in Atlanta, Georgia.
Fifth-year David Dixon and senior diver PJ Lenz qualified to represent WVU at this year's national meet. Dixon received a bid to the NCAA Championships for the fifth consecutive season, making him the only Mountaineer in program history to do so, while Lenz qualified for the second straight year.
Dixon is set to represent West Virginia in 200-yard butterfly event, as well as the 200 individual medley and 100 fly. Lenz will compete on 1-meter springboard, after taking second at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships, on March 7-9. Additionally, senior diver will compete on platform.
ESPN will provide live coverage of each day's prelim and finals events on ESPN3. Preliminary sessions are scheduled for 10 a.m. ET, while each night's finals are set to begin at 6 p.m.
Fans also can follow along with live swimming results on sidearmstats.com, while live diving results are available at DiveMeets.com.
"It's been a difficult two weeks for David," Mountaineer coach Vic Riggs said. "But he's done an excellent job in training, attitude and being ready if we got the call. Finding out today that he earned his invite was a special day. I'm very pleased and happy for him that he gets to end his collegiate career at NCAAs."
"Thursday will be PJ's first competition at NCAA's, on the 1-meter" diving coach Karla Helder said. "It's amazing that teammate David Dixon will be joining him as the duo from WVU! We're excited to be here as a team, here in Georgia, and we look forward to the competition."
Competition for the Mountaineers begins on Thursday, with Dixon appearing in the 200 IM prelims and Lenz on the 1-meter springboard competition. On Friday, Dixon will race in the 100 fly. To conclude NCAAs and their collegiate careers, Dixon will compete in the 200 fly, while Lenz will compete on platform.
Dixon and Lenz both competed at the 2021 NCAA Championships, where Dixon earned All-American Honorable Mention status after placing 12th overall in the men's 200 fly. Lenz competed on men's 1-meter (36th – 263.00) and on platform (32nd – 279.25) at the last national meet.
