MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team concluded competition at the 2022 Big 12 Indoor Track and Field Championships on Feb. 25-26, in Ames, Iowa, where sophomore Jo-Lauren Keane set a WVU school record in the 800-meter run after she finished fourth in a time of 2:04.49.
"Jo was tremendous again over 800 meters as she navigated both her heat and finals," coach Sean Cleary said. "She is very talented. We are very excited to watch her career unfold."
The Mountaineers ended the Championship with seven Big 12 honors at the two-day Championship meet.
On Friday, the Mountaineers opened competition with the distance medley relay team placing third. The team of redshirt junior Charlotte Wood, senior Tessa Constantine, redshirt senior Mikaela Lucki and redshirt sophomore Ceili McCabe finished in a time of 11:21.26.
"I am especially proud of the distance medley relay team," Cleary said. "For various reasons, this group had only raced five times total between all four of them. They came out here and ran like season veterans to take third.
"Ceili was very strong in her first mile at the collegiate level," Cleary said. "Ceili has had a few hiccups training since the fall, but she came out here and ran very competitively."
On Saturday, McCabe led the way placing third in the mile run. She finished in a time of 4:38.99.
Additionally, Jackson placed fifth in the 1,000-meter. She finished in a time of 2:50.42 to earn All-Big 12 Honors.
"Hayley continued to garner All-Big 12 accolades for herself. This is her tenth award," Cleary said.
"Peter-Gay, Charlotte and Cassandra all came as close as an athlete can to being named to the All-Big 12 team in their primary events. They all have the ability and desire to correct that statistic outdoors," Cleary said.
