MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Some more Monday night basketball is on tap for the West Virginia Mountaineers when they face TCU at Schollmaier Arena in Fort Worth, Texas, tonight.
The game is a makeup for the contest that was originally scheduled to be played on Jan. 3 but was postponed because of COVID-19 issues within the Horne Frog program.
TCU is currently in the mix for an NCAA Tournament bid with a 16-8 overall record and a 5-7 mark in Big 12 play. ESPN.com's Joe Lunardi has the Horned Frogs in his latest Bracketology as a 10-seed, but that's down after TCU lost 72-62 at Baylor last Saturday.
TCU is 9-4 overall in games played at Schollmaier Arena this year. Veteran coach Jamie Dixon boasts a 112-79 record in his sixth season at his alma mater and is 440-202 overall in 19 seasons as a college coach.
Dixon's leading scorer is 6-foot-2, 195-pound sophomore guard Mike Miles, who is averaging 14.7 points per game. Miles scored 13 in last Saturday's loss at Baylor and recently had 19 in TCU's 77-68 victory over LSU in the Big 12/SEC Challenge.
Damion Baugh, a 6-foot-4 guard, and Emanuel Miller, a 6-foot-7 forward, are also averaging double figures at 10.6 and 10.4 points per game respectively.
Miller is grabbing a team-best 6.4 rebounds per contest.
Eddie Lampkin, a 6-foot-11, 268-pound freshman, is averaging 6.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game and is expected to start at center, while Chuck O'Bannon, a 6-foot-6, 215-pound senior, should get the starting nod at the other forward spot. He's averaging 9.6 points and 4.1 rebounds per contest.
West Virginia has won 16 of its 19 all-time meetings against TCU including a season sweep of the series last year.
All three Horned Frog victories against West Virginia have come in Fort Worth.
West Virginia (14-12, 3-10), is looking to snap its current three-game skid after ending a seven-game losing streak on Feb. 8 against Iowa State.
WVU got 18 points from
Sean McNeil and 16 from
Taz Sherman in Saturday's 71-58 loss to the Jayhawks.
Sherman continues to lead the Mountaineers in scoring with an average of 18.5 points per game. McNeil is the only other WVU player averaging double digits at 13.2.
Despite dropping 10 of its last 11 game, West Virginia still as a NET ranking of 69 with five regular season games left. All five remaining games are against opponents with higher NET rankings: TCU (56), Iowa State (35), Texas (15), Oklahoma (45) and TCU.
Tonight's game will tip off at 8 p.m. and will be televised on Big 12 Now on ESPN+ (Ted Emrich and Bryndon Manzer). Mountaineer Sports Network coverage starts at 7 p.m. on stations throughout West Virginia and online via WVUsports.com and the popular mobile app WVU Gameday.
