MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Five Mountaineer victories lead the West Virginia University men's and women's swimming and diving teams to victory in the third annual WVU Invitational at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park on Saturday night, in Morgantown.
"I'm really impressed with how the teams competed this weekend," Mountaineer coach Vic Riggs said. "They've done a great job of training this fall and to see their results from the hard work pay off is very rewarding for them. We saw Mia Cheatwood set a new program record in the 100 breastsroke and multiple season and lifetime best times, and some new U.S. Open Cuts"
The WVU men's team took home first place with 2,035 team points, ahead of Drexel in second with 1,223.5. On the women's side, the Mountaineers claimed the top spot with 1,707 points, followed by William & Mary in second with 1,335.5 points.
Saturday's finals session began with the men's and women's platform finals. Sophomore Sarah Krusinski finished second with a score of 233.25, while freshman Patrick Burke claimed the men's event with 299.60.
Competition began in the pool with the 200-yard backstroke. Both juniors Paige Dressel took second (1:59.11) and Justin Heimes (1:49.65) in their respective events.
