WVU Travels to YSU Invitational

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The West Virginia University track and field team travels to the Youngstown Invitational in Youngstown, Ohio, on Friday, Jan. 21. The meet will take place at Watson and Tressel Training Site.
Friday's action begins at 12:30 p.m. ET, with field and running events. Live results can be found at wvusports.com.
The Mountaineers will be joined by Alderson Broaddus, Ashland, Bryant & Stratton (Ohio), Buffalo, Carnegie Mellon, Charleston (W.V.), Clarion, Davis & Elkins, Duquesne, Edinboro, Frostburg State, Geneva, Lock Haven, Malone, Mount Union, Ohio Christian, Pitt-Johnstown, Pittsburgh Pharaoh Hounds, Point Park, Second Sole Elite, Slippery Rock, Ursuline (Ohio), Walsh, West Liberty, West Virginia Wesleyan, Westminster (Pa.), Wheeling, Youngstown State.
West Virginia last competed at the Youngstown Invitational on Jan. 17, 2020, when then redshirt sophomore Hayley Jackson and sophomore Peter-Gay McKenzie secured a pair of wins to lead the Mountaineers at the meet.
Jackson's victory came in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:09.97, while McKenzie grabbed the top spot in the long jump. The Mountaineers finished the night with nine top-10 finishes.
WVU opened the 2021 indoor season on Friday, Dec. 3, with the annual WVU Open at the WVU Shell Building.
Redshirt sophomore Ceili McCabe was the lone Mountaineer who participated in the Sharon Colyera-Danville Season Opener, in Boston, Massachusetts, on Saturday, Dec. 4.
McCabe broke another program record in the women's 3,000-meter run after completing the race in a program-record time of 8:52.52 to finish in first place.
West Virginia earned four first-place finishes and 11 top-five finishes at the WVU Open.
Freshman Eden Williams made her Mountaineer debut in the high jump competition, where she took first with a mark of 1.60 meters. In pole vault, redshirt junior Ellie Gardner finished first with a mark of 3.50 meters.
Senior Sada Wright placed first in the weight throw competition and finished with a mark of 17.52 meters.
On the track, sophomore Emily Oiler opened with a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:00.78.
