Novice Teams Hit the Water for Fall Competition

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rowing team sent its novice squad for fall competition on Saturday, November 6, competing at the Head of the Occuquan in Fairfax Station, Virginia.
The race occurred at Sandy Run Regional Park in Fairfax Station, Virginia, on a course of approximately 5000 meters in a time trial format in which crews crossed the starting line one at a time racing the clock. The 4+s raced first, followed by the 8+s.
"We had a very successful first race," WVU assistant rowing coach Tina Griffith said. "The team worked well together and even though we had a few last minute changes, the team rolled with it seamlessly and did not let it impact their racing or their approach. The results were solid for us and all of the boats were able to pinpoint both what was good about the race and where they had room for improvement, so we are looking forward to working on those areas of improvement both this week for our upcoming scrimmage with Duquesne and overall for the future."
