Rowing Opens Fall Competition at Yinzer Cup

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rowing team opened its fall season on Saturday, October 23, competing at the Yinzer Cup, hosted by Robert Morris.
The race occurred on the Ohio River in Moon Township, Pennsylvania, on a course of approximately 2500m in a time trial format in which crews crossed the starting line one at a time racing the clock. The Varsity 4+s raced first, followed by the Varsity 8+s.
"The first competition of the season is always a good point to assess how our overall training is progressing," WVU rowing coach Jimmy King said. "While we're regularly checking our training markers throughout the season, competition provides another valuable layer of assessment. In our case, we're primarily interested in assessing how well we execute in racing relative to what we have been doing in training. While our crews raced well in that context, we certainly have much to work on, much progress that can be made, and that's exciting!"
