
Sibley Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After tallying her first career brace to lift the Mountaineers to a win over Texas Tech, senior midfielder Isabella Sibley of the West Virginia University women's soccer team was named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
The Uxbridge, England, native put the Mountaineers on the board in the 71st minute with the eventual game winner. Sibley then added a second score to tally the brace and solidify the WVU victory in the 90th minute. With her two-goal performance against the Red Raiders, she became West Virginia's 126th two-goal scorer all-time and second of the season.
Sibley now sits in a tie for second on the team with four goals on the season, while she also is second in points with 11 on the year. Her first goal of the match was designated the game winner, as she now co-leads the team with a pair of game-winning goals on the year.
West Virginia now prepares for a two-game road swing through the Lone Star State, beginning with a match at Texas on Thursday, Oct. 21. Kickoff at Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field in Austin, is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET.

Last Week in Golf: WVU defeated Kansas State and tied No. 9 Kansas in the Big 12 Match Play Championship in Hockley, Texas from Oct. 11-13 … Mark Goetz and Logan Perkins won three matches, while Trent Tipton won two, Kurtis Grant one and Olivier Ménard one … freshman Max Green tied his match against Oklahoma … WVU began play on Sunday, Oct. 17 at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational … after day one, Goetz was tied for sixth place at 2-under-par, while Grant was 1-under-par tied for 13th place … Green and Tipton shot 2-over-par, while Perkins and Ménard shot a 78.
Notes: The 2021 Isleworth Collegiate Invitational event marks the fourth season the Mountaineers and UCF have co-hosted the tournament on the par-72, 7,544-yard course ... No. 61 WVU and No. 63 UCF will be joined by No. 2 Arizona State, No. 21 Auburn, No. 23 LSU, No. 26 Illinois, No. 33 SMU, No. 40 Florida, No. 47 North Florida, No. 73 South Carolina, No. 111 California, No. 119 Minnesota, No. 149 Coastal Carolina and No. 189 Augusta in this year's field.

This Week in Tennis: The Mountaineers travel to Charlottesville, Virginia this weekend for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic Super Regionals, from Oct. 22-25 … WVU will send freshman Kendall Kovick and sophomore Momoko Nagato to compete in the singles quarterfinals round … No. 9-seed Kovick will go toe-to-toe with No.1-seed Alexandra Viktorovich from Old Dominion … Nagato is scheduled to play William & Mary's Hedda Gurholt … West Virginia is set to face VCU and JMU in the doubles semifinals round … No. 1-seed doubles pair freshman Camilla Bossi and sophomore Ting-Pei Chang will battle it out against No. 5-seed Gabriela Davidescu and Shivani Manjanna from VCU … Nagato and junior Penny Hsieh will face JMU's No. 3-seed Kylie Moulin and Daria Afanasyeva.
Last Week in Tennis: WVU welcomed James Madison, Louisville and Penn State to Morgantown, as they hosted their annual Martha Thorn Invitational … the invite took place at the Mountaineer Tennis Courts and Summit Tennis Academy from Oct. 15-17 … the Mountaineers tallied fifteen victories at the invite between doubles and singles play
… doubles pair Bossi and Chang went undefeated this weekend, while freshman Michaela Kucharova went undefeated in singles play.
Notes: This is the first time ITA is hosting a Super Regional tournament ... the University of Virginia will host the tournament from Oct. 22-25 … this is the first time the Mountaineers advanced a doubles pair past quarterfinals since Christina Jordan and Habiba Shaker in 2016 … doubles pair Bossi and Chang remain undefeated, 9-0, through the start of the fall circuit … following competition in Charlottesville, West Virginia will have a week off before they travel to Stillwater, Oklahoma for Big 12 Individual Championships, from Nov. 5-7.
This Week in Rifle: West Virginia is off this week … WVU next competes on Saturday, Nov. 6, when the team travels to Fort Wayne, Indiana, to shoot against TCU at the X Count … the contest against the Horned Frogs is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. ET and is the Mountaineers' only neutral-site contest of the regular season.
Last Week in Rifle: No. 2 West Virginia defeated No. 11 NC State, 4730-4652, on Oct. 17, at the James T. Valvano Arena at William Neal Reynolds Coliseum, in Raleigh, North Carolina … the win was WVU's fourth straight to open the 2021-22 campaign … the Mountaineers are now 22-0 all-time against the Wolfpack … West Virginia captured victories on both guns, defeating NC State 2348-2294 in smallbore and 2382-2358 in air rifle … all 10 Mountaineer shooters placed inside the top 10 on the overall match leaderboard, while also capturing the top-10 spots on the match smallbore standings … additionally, WVU claimed the top-eight spots on the air rifle leaderboard … in total, five Mountaineers showed an aggregate score of 1180 or better and every shooter tallied a 581 or better in smallbore … WVU was led by sophomore Becca Lamb, who tallied career highs in all three statistical categories against NC State (1186 aggregate, 589 smallbore, 597 air rifle).
Notes: With Sunday's win over NC State, WVU is now 4-0 on the season, including 3-0 in the Great American Rifle Conference (GARC) … West Virginia opened last season with a record of 7-0 (5-0 GARC) … sophomore Tal Engler continues to lead the Mountaineers in average aggregate score this season and ranks No. 4 nationally in the category (1183) … additionally, sophomore Molly McGhin ranks No. 5 nationally in average combined score (1183) … Engler also leads WVU in average air rifle score, with 596.25, and ranks No. 4 in the nation … McGhin and senior Verena Zaisberger co-lead the squad with an average smallbore score of 588, good for No. 4 and 5 in the country, respectively … WVU is No. 1 nationally in air rifle average (2379.5) and No. 2 in aggregate average (4726.5) and smallbore average (2347).
