MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Stadium College Basketball Insider Jeff Goodman listed West Virginia's Larry Harrison among the top five assistant coaches in the Big 12 Conference in a posting made yesterday on Stadium's website.
Goodman is polling assistant coaches from each major conference in a series running throughout the summer.
According to Goodman, Harrison came in fifth behind Baylor's Jerome Tang, Texas Tech's Mark Adams, Oklahoma's Carlin Hartman and Kansas' Norm Roberts.
Iowa State's Daniyal Robinson also made the list in a tie with Harrison for firth place.
"He's one of the most underappreciated guys in the business," one anonymous Big 12 assistant said of Harrison. "Good at every aspect of the job. Elite talent evaluator and recruiter. Great at player development and relationships. Knows the game well and, most importantly, knows how to help make his boss successful."
His boss, Bob Huggins, agrees.
"Larry is a great basketball guy, hard-working, loyal, (has an) outstanding rapport with players and (is) a great friend," he said.
Harrison was with Huggins at Cincinnati from 1989 until 1997, and then he hooked back up with Huggins at WVU in 2008 after coaching stints at DePaul and Hartford, and a one-year stint as a scout for the Washington Wizards.
