Five Former Mountaineers on 60-Man MLB Player Pools Announced So Far

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Most of the 60-man player pools for this year's Major League Baseball season have been announced and five former West Virginia University players have earned roster spots so far.
They are Alek Manoah (Toronto Blue Jays), John Means (Baltimore Orioles), Michael Grove (Los Angeles Dodgers), David Carpenter (Cincinnati Reds) and Ryan McBroom (Kansas City Royals).
Milwaukee is one of two teams that did not release their player pools on Sunday and when they do, infielder Jedd Gyorko is likely to be one of them.
Because there will not be minor league baseball this year, MLB teams will have an active 30-man roster for the first two weeks of the season. After two weeks, the roster will be pared to 28 for the next two weeks and then to 26 for the remainder of the regular season and postseason.
All other players go on the available player pool taxi squad and will work out and stay ready at a separate site away from the Major League club.
Because of the coronavirus pandemic, a 60-game schedule will be played this season.
Opening day will be July 23 for some teams and July 24 for others.
