WVU Looks to Remain Undefeated vs. Cornell

MORGANTOWN, W.Va – Following a two-win road trip against Seton Hall and Akron, the West Virginia University tennis team returns to Morgantown and plays host to Cornell on Sunday, Feb. 23, at the Summit Tennis Academy, in Morgantown.
"We are looking forward to the match against Cornell this weekend," WVU coach Miha Lisac said. "It will be good to be back home for matches, as well as to be tested. We are looking to get more comfortable with our game in singles, as well as get back on track in doubles play."
Sunday's match against Cornell will start at 10 a.m. ET.
West Virginia's all-time record against Cornell is 2-3, with the first meeting coming in 1995. The latest meeting between the two came in 2016, when the Mountaineers defeated the Big Red by a score of 4-3 in Ithaca, N.Y.
In the team's last outing, West Virginia defeated Seton Hall by a score of 6-0 on Feb. 15. The Mountaineers also picked up a win over Akron by a score of 5-2 on Feb. 16.
Cornell enters the match with a record of 1-9, with its lone win coming over the University of Massachusetts, 4-0. The Big Red started the match by getting the team point in doubles from the pairing of freshmen duo Michelle Deng and Fatima El Ashram in the No. 3 slot and freshman Ashley Huang and sophomore Sarah Campbell in the No. 2 slot.
The Big Red clinched the match in three singles contests, with wins coming from Deng in the No. 2 position, El Ashram in the No. 3 slot and Campbell in the No. 5 slot.
West Virginia is 7-7 all-time against current members of the Ivy League.
