West Virginia Takes Down Seton Hall

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team began its first road trip of the season with a win on Saturday morning, as the Mountaineers defeated Seton Hall, 6-0, at the LaTuchie Tennis Center, in Akron, Ohio.
"It was a good day of competition today in preparation for tomorrow's matches," WVU coach Miha Lisac said. "We are looking to continue to get better tomorrow against Akron."
The Mountaineers swept the doubles round, winning the No. 1 and No. 2 matches by scores of 6-3 and 6-2, respectively, to claim the first team point of the match. WVU won the final doubles match by walkover.
In singles, sophomores Anastasiia Bovolskaia and Nicole Roc, and seniors Sofia Duran and Christina Jordan all claimed two-set victories to help West Virginia jump out to a commanding 5-0 lead to secure the match.
Duran won her match from the No. 4 slot in a tiebreaker, after claiming the second set by a score of 7-6 (7-1).
Junior Giovanna Caputo capped off Saturday's contest with a three-set win from the No. 2 slot against Michal Matson. Caputo fell in the first set, 2-6, but rebounded to take the second set, 6-1, and force the third-set tiebreaker. Caputo emerged victorious in the final frame, winning 6-4.
The final singles match from the No. 6 slot went unplayed.
West Virginia returns to the LaTuchie Tennis Center on Sunday, Feb. 16, as the Mountaineers prepare for a matchup with Akron at 10 a.m. ET.
