Lynch Named Student-Athlete of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After helping the Mountaineers improve their overall record to 7-5 on the year, senior middle blocker Briana Lynch of the West Virginia University volleyball team has been named the WVU Student-Athlete of the Week, presented by University Apartments.
Lynch, the Mountaineers' lone selection on the 2020 Preseason All-Big 12 Team, was a force to be reckoned with at the net last week, turning in a team-high .391 hitting efficiency and averaging 1.50 blocks per set in the two-match series against Iowa State.
The Johns Creek, Georgia, native totaled a team-high 14 kills on 32 attacks for a .344 hitting percentage in the squad's five set-win on Friday. She also led the team's blocking efforts with seven block assists in the match, two blocks shy of a career high. Lynch followed up that performance with five more blocks and eight kills on Saturday, registering one error on 14 attacks for a game-high hitting percentage of .500 in the sweep over Iowa State.
Overall, she recorded 28.0 points on the weekend, averaging 3.50 points per set.
With the wins, WVU has won a program-best seven Big 12 Conference matches and earned a season sweep over Iowa State for the first time in program history.
This Week in Women's Soccer: West Virginia (7-2, 7-2 Big 12) has concluded its fall schedule … the team returns to action next semester, following the NCAA's approval to move fall championships to spring 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last Week in Women's Soccer: The No. 4-ranked Mountaineers fell to No. 3 TCU, 1-0, on Nov. 6, at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas … the Horned Frogs' 51st-minute goal proved to be the difference, despite WVU owning a 12-4 advantage in shots … junior forward Alina Stahl paced the Mountaineers with three shots on the night, while redshirt junior forward Lauren Segalla and sophomore forward/defender Julianne Vallerand each tallied two … in goal, sophomore goalkeeper Kayza Massey made two saves … with the win, TCU claimed the 2020 Big 12 regular-season championship.
