
Nagato Advances to Semifinals

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Freshman Momoko Nagato of the West Virginia University tennis team advanced to the semifinal round of this weekend's Fall Circuit tournament on Saturday afternoon at the Summit Tennis Academy in Morgantown.
"It was another good day of competition today," WVU coach Miha Lisac. "These matches are invaluable for each player to prepare for spring competition."
Freshman Amber Fuller began the day with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Noura Elkhansa, and senior Anne-Sophie Courteau followed shortly after with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Vanessa Mellynchuk. Nagato became the third Mountaineer to advance to the quarterfinals with a straight-set win over Marra Bruce (6-1, 6-2).
In the afternoon session, Fuller retired in the first set of her quarterfinal match and Courteau fell in two sets (1-6, 3-6) to conclude their weekend of play.
In the Mountaineers' final match of the day, Nagato took down Helen Sarikulaya (6-2, 6-0) to advance to the semifinals.
Nagato is scheduled to square off against Tatum Evans to open the final day of tournament action on Sunday. Matches are set to begin at 8 a.m. ET.
