MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Three members of the West Virginia University tennis team advanced to the round of 16 of this weekend's Fall Circuit tournament on Friday afternoon, at the Summit Tennis Academy, in Morgantown.
Freshman Amber Fuller began the day with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Aditi Vaidya, before senior Anne-Sophie Courteau defeated Elaine Qian in two sets, 6-3, 6-3. Freshman Momoko Nagato capped the first round of play with 6-2, 6-2 victory over Penn State's Sydney Weinberg.
"Momoko, Amber and Sophie all had a good start to the tournament today," WVU coach Miha Lisac said. "It's been a while since we last competed, and this weekend will provide much needed match play for each of our players. Tomorrow is another opportunity to challenge ourselves."
Fuller is set to square off against Noura Elkhansa in tomorrow's second round of tournament action, and Courteau's round-of-16 match pits her against Vanessa Mellynchuk. Nagato is scheduled to play Marra Bruce.
Saturday and Sunday's matches will begin at 8 a.m. A recap of each day's action will be posted on WVUsports.com.
