
Mountaineers Continue Strong Weekend on Day Two

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team continued its strong showing this weekend, as it collected five total wins on day two at Thunder in the Mountains on Saturday afternoon from the Schoenbaum Tennis Courts in Charleston, West Virginia.
"There is a lot that we can learn from today's matches and take into tomorrow," WVU coach Miha Lisac said. "It will be a good round of competition for us on Sunday, and hopefully, we can keep improving upon our performances."
Doubles Recap
In its final doubles action of the weekend, WVU took two of three matches against Akron to finish the tournament with a doubles record of 5-4.
Senior Christina Jordan and freshman Kat Lyman paired up for the second consecutive day and defeated Miruna Vasilescu and Rita Pedroso, 6-4.
Juniors Giovanna Caputo and Anne-Sophie Courteau bagged WVU's second doubles victory of the day, as they defeated Anna Uljanov and Aliona Krulgov, 6-3.
In the Mountaineers' last doubles match of the weekend, sophomores Anastasiia Bovolskaia and Nicole Roc fell to Claudia Cecilia Rosas and Holland Long, 3-6.
Singles Recap
West Virginia came away with three singles wins in the second day of tournament action, as it squared off against James Madison.
Courteau opened with a strong performance for the Mountaineers, clinching a two-set victory against Daria Afanasyeva, 7-6, 6-2. Courteau won the first-set tiebreaker, 7-1.
Jordan suffered a setback in the second singles match, as she fell to Daniela Voloh in two sets, 2-6, 4-6.
Caputo battled against Jona Roka in the third singles match. After falling in the first set, 2-6, Caputo rebounded to take the second set, 7-5, a force a super tiebreaker. The junior defeated Roka, 10-6, in the final frame to claim the match and WVU's second singles victory of the day.
Lyman secured her second singles win of the weekend against the Dukes, as she defeated Kylie Moulin in two sets, 6-3, 6-3.
West Virginia dropped its final two singles matches against JMU, as Roc fell to Natalia Nikolopoulou, 4-6, 2-6, and Bovolskaia suffered a setback against Michelle Los Arcos, 2-6, 4-6.

The Mountaineers are set to conclude this weekend's tournament tomorrow, with the tournament finale set to begin at 9 a.m. ET. WVU is scheduled to face off against its co-host and in-state foe Marshall in singles play at noon to cap the tournament.
