MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Former West Virginia University women's basketball player Bria Holmes and the Connecticut Sun will embark on their postseason run on Tuesday when the Sun take on the Los Angeles Sparks in the 2019 WNBA Playoffs on Tuesday. Game No. 1 of the series is set for a 6:30 p.m. tip on Wednesday at Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.
The Sun and the Sparks will meet in a best-of-five series, with Connecticut hosting the first two games of the series, as well as the fifth game if necessary. All games are set to air live on ESPN2. As the No. 2 seed, the Sun received byes for the first and second rounds.
Holmes, a native of nearby New Haven, Connecticut, is in her first season with the Sun. A first-round draft pick in 2016 WNBA Draft, Holmes spent her first two seasons with the Atlanta Dream before being traded to the Sun prior to the 2018 season. However, Holmes missed the 2018 season while pregnant with her daughter.
Balancing basketball and motherhood, Holmes has returned to the court for a successful 2019 campaign. She's averaged 6.3 points per game through 34 contests this season, averaging 15.6 minutes per game. Holmes posted a season-best 17-point effort on July 19 in a win over her former team, the Atlanta Dream. Additionally, Holmes had 11 points against the Chicago Sky (Sept. 6) and eight points and three rebounds against the Indiana Fever (Sept. 8) to cap the regular season.
A member of the 2014 Big 12 Regular Season Championship team, Holmes ranks third all-time at WVU in career scoring with 2,001 points and is tied for second all-time in games played at 138.
The winner of the series will face the winner of the series between the Las Vegas Aces and the Washington Mystics in the 2019 WNBA Finals.
