Koenders to Compete at University Games

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Junior David Koenders of the West Virginia University rifle team will compete for Germany at the 2019 Summer World University Games, July 6 – 8, in Napoli, Italy.
A native of Mossautal, Germany, Koenders will compete in the men's 10m air rifle competition on July 6 and the mixed team 10m air rifle competition on July 8.
Koenders returns to competition following a successful second season with the Mountaineers. A six-time All-American, he was named to the National Rifle Association (NRA) All-America Second Team Air Rifle and Smallbore, as well as the College Rifle Coaches Association (CRCA) All-America Third Team as a sophomore. Koenders finished a team-high third in smallbore at the 2019 NCAA Rifle Championships. Most recently, he was named to the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-America Men's At-Large Third Team.
The Summer World University Games are an international university and cultural event held every two years in a different city. Drawing thousands of student-athletes, the Games are one of the largest multi-sport events in the world.
