
Eddy Earns Junior National Championship

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Rising sophomore Jared Eddy of the West Virginia University rifle team captured the junior men's 50m rifle 3 positions title on June 23 at the 2019 USA Shooting National Championships for Rifle and Pistol at the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit in Fort Benning, Georgia.
A native of Columbus, Georgia, Eddy finished the two-day competition with a winning 2336 total. He opened with a 1166 mark on June 22 and followed with a 1163 score on Sunday, giving him a field-best 2329 total moving into the junior final. Eddy finished second in the final with a 450.6 score, earning seven additional points and putting his final mark at 2336.
Eddy's two-day score of 2329 also qualified him for the open final. He finished seventh in the final, shooting 398.7 for two additional points, and placed fifth overall with a 2331 total.
On the women's side, rising junior Sarah Osborn finished 11th in the junior women's 10m air rifle competition with a two-day mark of 1237.1 (616.7, 620.4). The Hampton, Virginia, native's score was good enough for a 17th-place finish in the open competition. Additionally, incoming freshman Malori Brown finished 20th in the junior competition, 30th overall, with a two-day mark of 1229.5 (617.6, 611.9).
Competition continues this week. The women's 50m rifle 3 positions final is scheduled for Wednesday, June 26, and the men's 10m air rifle final will follow on Thursday, June 27.
