MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Three from the West Virginia University rifle team will compete at the USA Shooting National Championships for Rifle and Pistol, which opens today at the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit in Fort Benning, Georgia, and runs through June 29.
National titles will be awarded throughout the week. Additionally, athletes are competing for roster spots for the upcoming International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup Brazil.
Representing the Mountaineers are junior Sarah Osborn, sophomore Jared Eddy and incoming freshman Malori Brown.
"This is one of the bigger competitions of the summer," Mountaineer coach Jon Hammond noted. "It's always a great opportunity to shoot at a National Championships. For Jared and Sarah, this is a warm-up for the ISSF Junior World Cup in July. It also is their first high-level competition since April.
"All three of these athletes will be competing against the best in the country, and I am excited to be in Georgia and to see how they perform."
The trio will compete in the open and junior competitions. The women's 10m air rifle and the men's 50m rifle 3 positions finals will be held on Sunday, June 23. The women's 50m rifle 3 positions final will take place on Wednesday, June 26, and the men's 10m air rifle final will follow on Thursday, June 27.
