The top-five finishers in each of the four heats, plus the next four fastest times, advanced to Saturday's 1,500-meter quarterfinal.
Competition at the NCAA East Preliminary Round continues on Friday, as redshirt senior Madelin Gardner is set to compete in the first round of the pole vault at 5 p.m. ET. On Saturday, redshirt senior Shamoya McNeil takes on the triple jump first round at 3 p.m.
Gardner is seeded No. 2 in the pole vault with a school-record mark of 4.47 meters (14 feet, 8 inches) from the Virginia Challenge on April 20.
