MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Guard Dekeriya Patterson has signed a National Letter of Intent with the West Virginia University women's basketball team and will join the Mountaineers for the 2019-20 season.
The 5-foot-9 guard spent the 2018-19 season at Chipola College, where she was a teammate of WVU signee Blessing Ejiofor. Patterson averaged 17.6 points and 34.3 minutes per game with 96 3-pointers made on the season. She led the Lady Indians in scoring, minutes per game and 3-point field goal percentage, helping them to a 22-6 overall record. Patterson currently ranks as the No. 7 JUCO prospect.
"We're very excited to have her as part of our program," coach Mike Carey said. "She's a combo guard that has Division I experience. She'll come here with two years of eligibility left and can contribute immediately to the backcourt."
Patterson played at LSU as a freshman in 2017-18, seeing action in 16 games. A native of Fort Myers, Florida, she was a three-star prospect and rated as the No. 22 guard for the class of 2017 out of Dunbar High. Patterson averaged 24.0 points per game as a senior in 2016-17 for the Tigers and posted a career average of 15.1 points and 2.1 assists per contest. In addition to LSU, Patterson was recruited by Wisconsin and USF.
Patterson is the sixth new addition to the program for the upcoming season. Guard Leilani Correa (Manchester, N.J./Manchester Twp.), guard Kirsten Deans (Greensboro, N.C./Connections Academy), forward Jada Wright (Chicago, Ill./Trinity Valley CC), guard Alreighshya McElroy (Dallas, Texas/Trinity Valley CC) and center Blessing Ejiofor (Ebonyi, Nigeria/Chipola College) committed to the Mountaineers during the November signing period.
