MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Junior Morgan Bullock of the West Virginia University women's swimming and diving team has qualified for the 2019 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, as announced on Wednesday.
For the second consecutive season, Bullock earned a bid in the 200 butterfly with her top time of 1:55.25, from the 2019 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championship. She becomes the first Mountaineer woman to qualify for back-to-back NCAA Championships since Rachael Burnett (2012-13) and Mandie Nugent (2011-13).
The Zeeland, Michigan, native enters the meet, which commences from March 20-23, at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center, in Austin, Texas, ranked No. 24 in the nation in the 200 fly.
Additionally, Bullock will compete in the 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley after earning NCAA B-cuts in the events during the 2018-19 season.
Bullock placed 15th overall in the 200 fly with a time of 1:54.77 at last season's NCAA Championships in Columbus, Ohio, earning honorable mention All-America status. The performance marked WVU's first women's All-American since 2013.
This season, Bullock earned two silver and four bronze medals at the 2019 Big 12 Championship, from Feb.27-March 2, in Austin. Individually, she placed second in the 200 fly in 1:55.25, and third in the 100 fly (53.09) and 200 IM (1:58.96).
She also helped the 400 medley relay team to a silver medal, as well as the 200 and 800 freestyle relays to bronze medals. The 200 free relay team, which also was comprised of junior Julia Nilton, sophomore Giselle Gursoy and freshman Emma Bliss, broke the school record with a time of 1:31.45.
A total of 322 participants (281 swimmers and 41 divers) will compete at this year's national meet. Swimmers qualified for the championships by meeting the established minimum time for the events in which they entered. Divers will be determined by performances at the Zone Diving Meets, which run from March 11-16.
Qualifiers for the 2019 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships will be revealed on Wednesday, March 13, at 12 p.m. ET.
