MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team (8-7, 0-5 Big 12) dropped its second hard-fought match of the weekend, as it fell to the No. 8-ranked Oklahoma State Cowgirls, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Summit Tennis Academy in Morgantown.
"They're one of the top teams for a reason. I thought they came out and played hard. They played well," said coach Miha Lisac. "When we did find ourselves in close situations, they, for the most part, had a little more confidence. They took advantage of those better. They deservedly won some of those close situations. But for us, it's an important experience to take and learn from, and make sure that we're not just getting better little by little, but we're getting better in big steps as we close the gap towards the top teams."
Doubles Recap
The first doubles match to finish came from the No. 1 slot, where senior Paula Goetz and junior Christina Jordan were bested by the No. 17-ranked duo of Sofia Blanco and Catherine Gulihur, 2-6.
Starting in the No. 3 slot, senior Abigail Rosiello and sophomore Anne-Sophie Courteau battled back and forth with Bunyawi Thamchaiwat and Tamara Arnold. Rosiello and Courteau's fight would not be enough, as they fell to the Cowgirl duo, 4-6. With the loss, Oklahoma State claimed the doubles team point and led WVU, 1-0.
The final doubles match from the No. 2 slot went unfinished. Junior Sofia Duran and freshman Anastasiia Bovolskaia trailed the No. 68-ranked duo of Katarina Stresnakova and Marina Guinart, 3-5, when the match was called.
