MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University senior
Kirah Koshinski was named to the 2019 All-Big 12 Gymnastics Vault Team, as announced this afternoon by the conference office.
The honor is the Berwick, Pennsylvania, native's third career award and first since the 2017 season. A three-time NACGC/W Regular-Season All-American for vault, she is the only Mountaineer gymnast to earn more than one career All-Big 12 honor.
"Kirah has put up some of the most consistent vault scores nationally over the last four seasons, and she is definitely one of the best gymnasts in the Big 12 Conference," coach
Jason Butts said. "I'm thrilled for her to earn this honor – it's a testament to her hard work and everything she has sacrificed to be a Mountaineer. Kirah deserves this recognition."
Top-ranked Oklahoma led the way with eight All-Big 12 selections, while Denver received five awards.
The All-Big 12 team includes the top-three conference gymnasts with the highest National Qualifying Score (NQS) in each event and the top-two all-around competitors. NQS figures are based on the March 18 Road to Nationals Rankings.
Koshinski ranks No. 2 in the Big 12, No. 6 nationally, on vault with a 9.925 NQS. She has scored 9.8 or better 10 times this year, including a career-high matching 9.95 twice. She received her first 10.0 on the event at Pitt on Feb. 22, and she ultimately won vault outright with a 9.95. Most recently, she has scored 9.925 in back-to-back meets.
Koshinski ranks No. 1 in WVU program history with 25 vault scores of 9.9 or better.
Denver's Maddie Karr ranks No. 1 in the Big 12 with a 9.93 NQS, and Brenna Dowell from Oklahoma ranks No. 3 with a 9.92 NQS.
The Mountaineers face No. 1 Oklahoma, No. 5 Denver and No. 22 Iowa State at the 2019 Big 12 Gymnastics Championship on Saturday, March 23, at 2 p.m. EST, at the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman, Oklahoma. The meet will be broadcast on ESPNU.
