Mountaineers Suffer Setback at TCU

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team (8-5, 0-3 Big 12) dropped their third conference match of the season on Sunday afternoon, as it was defeated by TCU, 4-0, at the Bayard H. Friedmann Tennis Center in Fort Worth, Texas.
"The results this weekend were not what the goals were," head coach Miha Lisac said. "We will get better and fix the mistakes we are making."
Doubles Recap
Doubles play began in the No. 1 slot, where juniors Christina Jordan and Sofia Duran squared off against Ellie Douglas and Aleksa Cveticanin. Jordan and Duran were defeated by the No. 41-ranked duo, 0-6, to open doubles play.
WVU rebounded in the No. 3 slot, where senior Abigail Rosiello and sophomore Anne-Sophie Courteau bested Mercedes Aristegui and Kate Paulus, 6-3, to even the doubles score, 1-1.
In the deciding match from the No. 2 slot, senior Paula Goetz and freshman Anastasiia Bovolskaia were defeated, 3-6, by Chloe Hule and Stevie Kennedy. TCU claimed the doubles team point and led West Virginia by one.
Singles Recap
The first singles match to finish came from the No. 3 slot, where Bovolskaia was defeated by Mercedes Aristegui in two sets, 0-6, 1-6.
In the No. 4 slot, Courteau suffered her fourth singles loss of the season. The Quebec, Canada, native was defeated by Kate Paulus in two sets, 0-6, 0-6.
Starting in the No. 1 slot, Goetz went toe-to-toe with Ellie Douglas to decide the match. Douglas defeated Goetz in two sets, 6-2, 6-0, to claim the Horned Frogs' fourth team point to win the match. The remaining singles matches from the No. 2, 5 and 6 slots went unfinished.

Looking Ahead
The Mountaineers return to Morgantown for a four-match homestand. WVU will host Oklahoma on Friday, March 22, and Oklahoma State on Sunday, March 24. Friday's action against the Sooners is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. ET, while Sunday's match is slated to begin at 10 a.m. ET.
Following the pair of conference matches, West Virginia will host a non-conference doubleheader on Saturday, March 30, against California (Pa.) and Towson. The doubleheader will begin at 10 a.m. ET.
