Mountaineers Rank No. 24

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – After sitting just outside the top 25 for the last six weeks, the West Virginia University gymnastics team jumps back into the Road to Nationals Rankings at No. 24.
The Mountaineers' (15-6, 0-4) move is based on their National Qualifying Score (NQS) of 195.465. Formerly known as a Regional Qualifying Score (RQS), an NQS is derived by taking a team's top six scores, three of which must be earned on the road, dropping the top mark and averaging the remaining five.
WVU, who opened the 2019 season ranked No. 22 in the Road to Nationals Rankings, sat at No. 26 last week.
The Mountaineers also rank No. 8 on floor exercise (49.23 NQS) and No. 22 on vault (48.93 NQS).
Individually, three Mountaineers own four national rankings. Senior Kirah Koshinski ranks No. 7 on vault (9.9 NQS) and No. 10 on floor (9.915 NQS). Classmate Jaquie Tun ranks No. 25 on floor (9.89 NQS), and junior Abby Kaufman ranks No. 48 in the all-around (38.91 NQS).
Regionally, WVU ranks No. 3 overall in the Southeast. The Mountaineers rank as high as No. 2 on floor and sit at No. 3 on vault and No. 5 on uneven bars (48.88 NQS) and balance beam (48.715 NQS).
Five Mountaineers are regionally ranked on floor. Koshinski paces the lineup and ranks No. 4. Tun ranks No. 7, and sophomore McKenna Linnen ranks No. 17 (9.825 NQS). Kaufman and junior Erica Fontaine rank No. 21 (9.805 NQS) and No. 24 (9.8 NQS), respectively.
Koshinski's top regional ranking comes on vault, where she sits at No. 2. Tun follows at No. 15 (9.77 NQS), and Kaufman and freshman Rachel Hornung are tied at No. 24 (9.755 NQS).
Tun and freshman Esperanza Abarca rank No. 14 on uneven bars (9.81 NQS). Hornung ranks a team-best No. 14 on balance beam (9.785 NQS), and Kaufman follows at No. 24 (9.73 NQS). Kaufman also ranks No. 9 in the all-around.
The Mountaineers rank No. 3 in the Big 12 Conference. WVU is tied with Denver at No. 2 on floor and also ranks No. 4 on vault, bars and beam.
Koshinski ranks No. 2 on vault and No. 3 on floor. Kaufman ranks No. 5 in the all-around, Tun sits at No. 7 on floor and Hornung ranks No. 10 on beam.
Up next, the Mountaineers travel to Columbus, Ohio, for a tri meet at No. 23 Ohio State with Temple on Saturday, March 2, at 4 p.m., inside St. John Arena. The Owls are a recent addition to the meet.
