WVU Successful at 2019 Winter Airgun Championships

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore Jared Eddy and junior Sarah Osborn of the No. 2-ranked West Virginia University rifle team earned top-five finishes in the junior finals at the USA Shooting Winter Airgun Championships/Air Rifle Olympic Trials, held last weekend at the Olympic Training Center, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Eddy, a native of Columbus, Georgia, shot 244.3 in the junior men's 10m air rifle final and placed second, while Osborn, a native of Hampton, Virginia, finished third in the junior women's 10m air rifle competition with a final score of 224.3.
Overall, Eddy finished 12th with a two-day score of 1243.0, shooting 621.1 on Saturday and 621.9 on Sunday. Osborn posted a two-day total of 1241.4 to place 15th overall in the women's division. She shot 621.6 on the first day of competition, followed by a 619.8 total on Sunday.
Freshmen Malori Brown and Calista Smoyer also participated in the women's 10m air rifle competition, placing 50th (1226.9) and 64th (1220.1), respectively, out of 215 total shooters.
Last weekend's points will carry over to the second part of the Air Rifle Olympic Trials, which is set for Feb. 7-9, in Colorado, Springs, Colorado. No team spots were secured during the first stage of the Olympic Team Trials.
The Mountaineers will resume action against the All-Japan University Team on Sunday, Jan. 12, in Tokyo, Japan.
