WVU Wraps Up Fall Season

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team collected four wins on Sunday afternoon at the Kentucky Invite, as the Mountaineers wrapped up the fall tournament season at the Top Seed Tennis Club, in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
"It was a solid finish to our fall season," WVU coach Miha Lisac said. "We are looking forward to getting better through the offseason preparation and start the spring season in January with high goals."
Doubles Recap
In the final round of doubles, West Virginia split a pair of matches against host Kentucky and Virginia Tech.
Sophomore Anastasiia Bovolskaia and junior Giovanna Caputo paired for the second consecutive day to defeat VT's Lily Hackbirth and Jade Woo, 8-1.
Junior Anne-Sophie Courteau and senior Sofia Duran fell in the second doubles match, 1-8, to UK's Maialen Morante and Brianna Tulloch.
Singles Recap
The Mountaineers wrapped up fall play in singles, as the team squared off against DePaul and Utah, winning three matches in the final day.
After suffering a second-round defeat on Saturday, Courteau earned a bounce-back victory against Utah's Anya Lamoreaux. After winning the first set, 6-4, the junior dropped the second frame, 3-6, as Lamoreaux forced a third-set tiebreaker. Courteau decided the match in the final frame, winning 6-2.
Duran dropped her match against DePaul's Asparia Avgeri in three sets. Duran took the first set, 6-3, before falling in the final two frames, 3-6, 2-6.
Bovolskaia remained undefeated on the weekend, as she went toe-to-toe with Utah's Madison McKay. The sophomore claimed the victory in straight sets against McKay, 6-3, 6-0.
Caputo also posted a two-set victory against Utah, as she defeated Jasmine Rich in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
West Virginia finished the Kentucky Invite with a team record of 13-4, including a 4-1 record in doubles and a 9-3 record in singles, to conclude the fall tournament season.
