Mountaineers Host First-Ever WVU Invitational

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men's and women's swimming and diving teams are tabbed to host the WVU Invitational for the first time from Nov. 21-23, at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park, in Morgantown.
Competition begins on Thursday, Nov. 21, with preliminary action set for 10 a.m. ET and finals set for 6 p.m. Prelims will continue at 10 a.m. Friday and Saturday, with finals action scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday and 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Live results from the WVU Invitational are available at WVUsports.com/swim, as well as on the Meet Mobile App. Diving results also will be available throughout the weekend on DiveMeets.com.
"We are looking forward to hosting our first invitational this weekend," Mountaineer coach Vic Riggs said. "We have a great group of teams coming to town, and the competition should offer us the opportunity to improve from our last meet and see where we stand heading into the middle of our season."
The Mountaineers will be joined by swimming and diving programs from across the region, including Carnegie Mellon, Kenyon College, Old Dominion, Villanova and William & Mary. Diving teams from James Madison, Massachusetts, Navy and St. Bonaventure also will be in attendance this weekend.
Thursday's action features the 200 freestyle relay, 500 free, 200 individual medley, 50 free and 400 medley relay. Friday continues with the 200 medley relay, 100 butterfly, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke and 800 free relay. Action concludes on Saturday with the 1,650 free, 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly and 400 free relay.
Competition from the diving well begins with the men's and women's platform final at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday. On Friday, the men will compete on 1-meter and the women will participate on 3-meter, with prelims beginning at 12:30 p.m. and finals commencing at 6:15 p.m., following the conclusion of the first swimming relays.
Diving action concludes on Saturday, as the men move to 3-meter and the women compete on 1-meter. Prelims are tabbed for 12:30 p.m., and finals will take place 30 minutes following the conclusion of prelims.
The Mountaineers last competed when they hosted the West Virginia Sate Games from Nov. 1-2, which served as the inaugural meet in the team's new home at the Aquatic Center at Mylan Park. WVU captured an impressive victory at the meet, tallying a two-day total of 3,238.5 team points. The men took first place with 1,836.5 points, while the women contributed 1,402 points to grab the top spot.
Senior Morgan Bullock and junior David Dixon collected Big 12 Swimmer of the Week accolades for their performances at the annual meet that features swimming and diving programs from across the state. The duo collected seven wins apiece to pace the teams. The honors marked Bullock's and Dixon's fourth career honors and their first bi-weekly conference accolades of the 2019-20 season. In all, 21 different Mountaineers collected victories at the West Virginia State Games.
