MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Junior middle blocker Katie DeMeo of the West Virginia University volleyball team was named to the 2019 Academic All-District 2 Volleyball Team today, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
 
The accolade is her second career district award, as she becomes the first WVU volleyball player twice named to the Academic All-District Team. Hannah Shreve was the first to receive the honor in 2016.
 
A native of Troy, Ohio, DeMeo advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America National ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honors will be selected in the coming weeks.
 
DeMeo has played in 63 career matches, boasting 211 total blocks in her career. Last season, DeMeo led the team with 118 total blocks, averaging 1.27 blocks per set to rank fourth in the Big 12 Conference and 39th among all NCAA Division I players.
 
This season, she registered a season-high seven blocks against Utah Valley at the Outrigger Hotels and Resorts Volleyball Challenge, in Honolulu, Hawai'i, on Sept. 14.
 
DeMeo, who was one of eight Mountaineers to land on the 2018 Academic All-Big 12 First Team, shows a cumulative grade average (GPA) of 4.0 in business. A member of the 2017 All-Big 12 Rookie Team, she also is a President's List honoree and a member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, as well as the Garrett Ford Academic Honor Roll.
 
West Virginia welcomes Texas Tech to the WVU Coliseum on Saturday, Nov. 16, at 1 p.m. The team will don pink jerseys in support of breast cancer awareness. WVU Medicine will sponsor the match and will collect donations for the WVU Cancer Institute. Fans are encouraged to wear pink and can get the WVU sports official "pink" t-shirt with a donation of $10 or more to WVU Medicine.
 
Mountaineer Kids Club members also can pick up their t-shirts during the afternoon matchup. Additionally, the Mountaineers will sign autographs following the match.
