Former Coach Helps WVU Climb Higher

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Former West Virginia University gymnastics coach Linda Burdette Good and her husband, Lee, have invested in the Mountaineers' success in a variety of ways.
Linda is the winningest coach in WVU history with more than 600 wins, leading the gymnastics program to national prominence from 1975 to 2011. Lee also is a longtime member of the Mountaineer Athletic Club. And now, they have become an instrumental part in helping fund upgrades to Cary Gym as part of the Mountaineer Athletic Club's Climbing Higher capital projects campaign.
"Lee and Linda Good have been strong supporters of WVU Athletics for many years," senior associate athletics director/executive director Ben Murray said. "Their recent commitment to the gymnastics program will help provide our student-athletes with a first-class training facility that will allow them to train and compete against the best gymnasts in the country. We are extremely thankful for all that the Good's have provided our department."
West Virginia Athletics strives to be one of the nation's top athletics departments, and last August, WVU unveiled an ambitious $100 million capital campaign called 'Climbing Higher,' which includes renovations to the Puskar Center, Coliseum Complex and Cary Gym, as well as a new golf facility. The funding of first-class facilities gives WVU student-athletes the tools they need to win. It also helps coaches recruit and train the top competitors in the nation.
"Linda and Lee have always been tremendous supporters of WVU gymnastics," ninth-year coach Jason Butts said. "This gift continues the tradition of their support and will enable us to keep building a first-class gymnastics program and insure the best student-athlete experience. We are humbled and appreciative of all their support."
In honor of their donation, Director of Athletics Shane Lyons presented Linda and Lee with a commemorative framed gymnastics leotard at the WVU football game against Texas on Oct. 5.
