MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University Director of Athletics Shane Lyons announced the 2020 gymnastics schedule on Wednesday.
The Mountaineers' schedule features four home meets at the WVU Coliseum, including two in the month of March. WVU will compete against four teams which ended the 2019 season ranked in the top 25 of the Road to Nationals Rankings, including NCAA National Champion and reigning Big 12 Conference champion Oklahoma.
"I'm excited for the 2020 season," Mountaineer coach Jason Butts said. "It's a tough travel schedule, so we have to be smart in our training. We are going to compete against some of the top teams in the nation, but I know this team is up for the challenge.
"We also have some good teams coming to the WVU Coliseum this year, and I'm excited to see some great gymnastics at home. We have an amazing, talented team, and I think they're ready to bring the fire this year."
The Mountaineers' postseason slate starts with the 2020 Big 12 Gymnastics Championships, set for March 21, at the WVU Coliseum. This year's championship marks the second time WVU will welcome Denver, Iowa State and Oklahoma to Morgantown. West Virginia previously hosted the event in 2014, with Hope Sloanhoffer becoming the first Mountaineer gymnast to win a Big 12 title in the all-around event.
"Hosting the Big 12 Championship is going to be a huge event for us in March," Butts said. "We're definitely pulling out all the stops for that one. Meets at the WVU Coliseum are so much fun, and I think our fans will really enjoy this year's conference championships."
WVU opens the season with two straight meets away from Morgantown. The Mountaineers travel to State College, Pennsylvania, for a meet against Penn State on Saturday, Jan. 11, at 4 p.m., before flying west to Ames, Iowa, for their first Big 12 Conference meet of the season against Iowa State on Friday, Jan. 17, at 7:30 p.m.
"I like getting out there early and seeing what we are made of on the road," Butts said. "Those scores only help our regional qualifying score as we progress toward postseason. This year's schedule is tough, and I'm excited to knock out two of them right off the bat."
West Virginia opens its home season on Sunday, Jan. 26, against New Hampshire and Temple at 2 p.m.
A trip to Washington, D.C. on Friday, Jan. 31, pits the Mountaineers against host George Washington and William & Mary, with competition set to begin at 7 p.m. WVU will then head to Durham, New Hampshire, for a quad meet against host New Hampshire, George Washington and Brown on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 7 p.m.
West Virginia will trek to Norman, Oklahoma, to face the defending NCAA National Champions on Friday, Feb. 14, at 7:45 p.m. The teams also will compete against Texas Woman's University.
The Mountaineers wrap up their four-week road trip at rival Pitt on Friday, Feb. 21.

West Virginia will take its second trip of the season to Iowa on Sunday, March 8, for a meet against the Hawkeyes in Iowa City at 3 p.m.
The Mountaineers close their regular-season slate at home on Friday, March 13. WVU plays host to Penn, Maryland and Kentucky in a quad meet at 7 p.m. Of note, Kentucky finished inside the top 10 in the final Road to Nationals Rankings last season.
The conference championship returns to Morgantown for the first time since 2014, with this year's meet set for Saturday, March 21, at 7 p.m.
The NCAA Regional Championships will take place April 2-4, at the following sites: Oklahoma, Denver, Penn State and UCLA.
The 2020 NCAA National Championships are set for April 17-18, at Dickies Arena, in Fort Worth, Texas.
The Mountaineers opened preseason on Sept. 18, with their first official practice at Cary Gym. Eleven Mountaineers, including seniors Chloe Cluchey, Erica Fontaine, Abby Kaufman and Julia Merwin, return from a 2019 squad which posted a 19-9 record.
The Mountaineers qualified for the 2019 NCAA Regional Championships for the 40th time in program history, the 36th time in NCAA competition, and placed fourth in the second of two second-round quad meets at the 2019 NCAA Ann Arbor Regional Championships on April 5, with a 195.425 score.
