MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men's and women's swimming and diving teams have been named Scholar All-America Teams by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for their academic success during the 2018 fall semester.
The women's team earned the honor for the 22nd consecutive semester after recording a cumulative grade-point average of 3.42. The Mountaineer men combined for a 3.17 GPA, earning the national recognition for the third consecutive semester and fourth time in the last five semesters.
"I'm very proud of the continued focus and hard work these teams apply toward their academics," WVU coach Vic Riggs said. "We're always very happy to receive this honor."
Each of the Big 12 Conference's men's and women's swimming and diving programs were named Scholar All-America Teams in the fall semester. TCU and Texas also represented the conference by appearing on both lists, while Iowa State and Kansas were included for the women's award.
The award, presented twice a year, recognizes college and university swimming and diving teams who achieved a cumulative semester GPA of 3.0 or higher. In all, 713 teams from 460 schools were named to the Scholar All-America list for the 2018 fall semester.
Founded in 1922, the CSCAA – the oldest organization of college coaches in America – is a professional organization of college swimming and diving coaches dedicated to serving and providing leadership for the advancement of the sport of swimming and diving at the collegiate level.
